Online Service Standards

Collarts offers a range of courses delivered online. We are committed to providing a high quality learning experience for students and these online service standards explain our commitment.

 

Student Support

Collarts will provide the following support to students studying online:

  • Teachers/Assessors

As an Online student, you will regularly engage with your teachers through messages in Canvas, group discussion boards and weekly live webinars.

The teacher will respond to your queries within two business days. Assessments submitted on time will be marked and returned within one week of the due date.

  • Administrative Support - Student Care

Administrative support will be available for queries by phone and email between 9:00am and 5:00pm Monday to Friday.

The team will respond to email within two (2) business days.  You can contact Student Care on 1300 226 743 or email studentcare@mercer.edu.au

  • IT Support

Students can contact the Student Care team on 1300 226 743 or email studentcare@mercer.edu.au during opening hours to help resolve most IT issues. For more technical issues, the Student Care team will coordinate further support from Collarts IT help.

  • Support Services

As an online student, you will have access to counselling and wellbeing support. These sessions are available via Skype for any online students that are not able to come to campus.  This support is free and confidential. You can talk about anything happening in your life and get the support you need to keep your studies on track.

Student Entry Requirements and Induction

Collarts conducts a comprehensive Pre-Training Review for all prospective students to determine whether a course is suitable and appropriate for their individual needs. As part of the Pre-Training Review, we will include assessment of your level of digital literacy, by:

  • Asking you to undertake a self-assessment quiz
  • Discussing the quiz outcomes and making recommendations about whether the course is suitable for you as well as identifying areas where additional support may be required.

Collarts uses the learning management system (LMS) Canvas for online course delivery.

The following are the minimum information technology requirements to enable optimal access to the LMS:

  • A desktop or laptop computer (with 8GB memory and 1.8Ghz processor), however many aspects of the course can be accessed via smartphone or tablet.
  • Microsoft Office 2003 or later.
  • A reliable internet connection with the latest version of Google Chrome

  • Please note: Diploma of Interior design students will need access to a PC to use the Autodesk Revit software.

Learning Materials

Collarts ensures that learning materials used in online training are interactive and are presented in a variety of formats, including:

  • Interactive live webinars with teachers and peers
  • Interactive discussion forums
  • Guided content
  • Video

 

Student Engagement

Collarts provides interactive learning through Canvas LMS. Through online webinar and discussion forums students can interact with trainer/assessor and fellow students.

Trainer provide feedback for each task and automatic notification will be sent to the students after the feedback.

We also collect student surveys to improve the quality of the education.

Ongoing feedback will be provided as you study through:

  • interaction with trainers/assessors in informal discussion forums
  • in response to individual queries and in relation to tasks you complete
  • Student Care follow-up with the students if no activity in 45 days.

  • Practical demonstration

 

Details of Trainer and Assessor Skill and Experience in Online Delivery

All trainers and assessors delivering online courses at Collarts Training are experienced in online delivery and have undertaken professional development in online delivery, which includes:

  • formal qualifications in online training
  • participation in staff reference group of online trainers and assessors, who meet and share ideas for improvement.
